The short version
- Your funds and transactions are stored on your device. We don't keep them on our servers.
- Backup is optional. If you turn it on, an encrypted copy goes to your own Google Drive.
- We don't connect to your bank, and we don't sell your data.
1. Scope
This policy covers the Sorted mobile app and the website at sortednow.app. It does not cover the web beta at beta.sortednow.app.
2. Where your financial data lives
- On your device. Funds, planned items, recurring commitments and ad-hoc transactions are stored in a local database on your device. The app works offline.
- In your Google Drive (optional). If you connect Google Drive and use backup, the app uploads an encrypted file to the hidden app-data folder of your own Drive. The backup contains your funds and transactions. It does not currently include your settings.
- Not on our servers. We don't receive or store your funds or transactions.
3. Information we collect
- Account details. When you sign up or sign in with email and password or with Google, Firebase Authentication handles your email address, display name and account ID.
- App settings. Preferences such as currency and notification and backup toggles are saved in Firebase.
- Usage analytics. The app records app-usage events, such as which screens are viewed, using Firebase Analytics. Events are linked to your account ID, not to your name or email. They describe how the app is used and don't include your financial entries. You can turn this off in Settings under "Share Anonymous Usage Data".
- Crash reports. If the app crashes, a report may be sent to Sentry to help us fix it. We configure reports to exclude personal information, but we can't guarantee that nothing incidental is included.
Firebase, Google and Sentry process this data under their own terms and privacy policies. We don't sell your data, and we don't ask for your bank login, card numbers or any bank connection.
4. PIN, recovery code and encryption
- On first sign-up the app creates an encryption key and a recovery code. You set a 6-digit PIN to unlock the app. Your PIN is not stored.
- Backups are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before they are uploaded.
- Your encryption keys are kept on your device only. We don't hold a copy.
- If you turn on biometric unlock, the key is kept in your device's secure storage and released through Face ID, Touch ID or your Android biometrics. We don't receive your biometric data.
Encryption reduces risk but is not a guarantee. Keep your device, PIN, recovery code and Google account secure.
5. Optional Google Sheets export
If you turn on "Also save checklist to Google Sheets", the app saves your monthly checklist as a Google Sheet in a .sorted folder in your Drive. This export is not encrypted. It contains the checklist details shown in the app and is readable by anyone with access to your Google account or the file. It is off unless you enable it.
6. Your choices
| In the app | What happens |
|---|---|
| Sign Out | Ends your session. Data on your device is kept. |
| Sign Out & Clear Data | Removes the local database and secure storage on your device. |
| Delete Account | Deletes your Firebase account and the data on your device. |
Delete Account does not delete your Google Drive backup or Google Sheets export. Those files belong to your Google account. You can remove them yourself in Google Drive, including the app-data backup under Google Drive's settings for managing apps.
Turn off "Share Anonymous Usage Data" in Settings to stop analytics. For questions about your personal data, contact here.
7. Children
Sorted is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.
We may update this policy; the "Last Updated" date above shows the latest version. Questions? Contact here.
